Title: SUMMONER RISING
Author: Melanie McFarlane
Pub. Date: March 28, 2017
Publisher: Month9Books
Format: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 300

Excerpt from, The Book of Summoning:
Law One: A summoner is responsible for all creatures it lets through from the netherworld.

Dacie Cantar wishes someone had explained the Laws of Summoning to her before she watched a shadowy creature crawl out of a painting at the local arcade. At least it explains the strange things she's witnessed since moving in with her great-aunt, after her mother’s untimely death. But who wants to be followed by shadows the rest of their life? Add that to being stalked by a strange boy at school, who just might be her Tovaros (aka soulmate), it’s about all Dacie can handle in her new life.

As she nears her seventeenth birthday, will she be ready for her new responsibilities, or will the shadows that stalked her mother until her death, finally consume Dacie, too? And then there’s Law Two…

Excerpt:
When we pull up at the front of the house, everything is dark. Katya must be out. I stay quiet as I close the door and walk onto the front porch.

“Don’t be mad,” Tryan says grabbing my hand and pulling me back against his chest. He looks down into my face. “Demons aren’t trustworthy,” he says. “Just remember that.”

I relax my body against his and Tryan leans down and kisses me. His lips are soft and gentle, and I melt against him. The stress of this last month melts away.

A shiver runs through my body and Tryan mistakes it for a chill. “Let’s go inside,” he says, pulling my hand toward the door.

As Tryan grabs the handle, the door creaks open. It’s not locked? He looks back at me with a frown creased across his brow. I push past him into the house.

“Katya?” I call out into the darkness. Nothing. Lights flicker into the kitchen through the open patio doors on the other side of the house.

“Come on,” Tryan says pulling me outside with a finger to his lips. “This way.”

We slowly creep around the side of the house, following the flickering lights to the back yard. Between the tall fence and the wooden siding of the house, we’re sitting ducks. We slow down as we reach the back corner and Tryan grabs my hand.

“Let me go first,” he says. “Please. Trust me.”

I nod and hold back as Tryan passes in front of me. He peers around the corner, then holds up a hand for me to stop as he disappears into the backyard.

I shuffle around the corner, but Tryan is nowhere to be seen. Lights are hanging along the fence to the back of the property, flickering on and off.

“Tryan?” I whisper. No answer. I look back. Where is he?

“Tryan?” I call out a little louder this time.

Blog Tour: OF THE TREES by E.M. Fitch

    Title: OF THE TREES
    Author: E.M. Fitch
    Pub. Date: February 28, 2017
    Publisher: Month9Books
    Format: Paperback, eBook
    Pages: 345

Cassie and Laney fancy themselves amateur ghost hunters. When a carnival comes to town, Cassie embraces the chance to try something new.

Carnival workers watch the girls with a collective gaze that ignites in Laney a dark and dangerous fascination, leaving Cassie unnerved.

It's not just their age or the unsettling way they stare. There is something in the shifting of their skin and the way their features seem to change in the shadows.

Cassie can's shake this sickening feeling that there's more to the carnival than meets the eye.

When townspeople suddenly start dying and bloody warnings appear around town, Cassie is lured into a nightmare where trees whisper and strange, shape-shifting men haunt the backwoods she once hunted for ghosts with her best friend.

Then Laney goes missing, and only Cassie can get her back. But the creatures of the trees aren't simply going to hand Laney over to Cassie without getting something in return.

How E.M. Fitch got her book deal....

I queried and submitted my novel. A lot. That included an absolute ton of research and a helping of luck. Now I did this level of research for all the places I submitted, but I’ll spare you some of the boring details and stick to Month9Books. I found Month9Books online and was immediately drawn in because they specialize in publishing speculative fiction for teens and tweens, which is exactly what I write. I liked that there was a focus to the publishing house, that it wasn’t some big umbrella under which everything from steamy romance to cookbooks could fall under. So I purchased one of their earlier books. I found myself impressed with the editing, it was done so cleanly. (I tend to pay attention to things like that when I read, so it stood out for me.) Another thing that impressed me was the cover art, it was gorgeous! I checked out a whole slew of their books, and I liked what I found. So I queried, and then I crossed my fingers.

That sounds pretty simple, doesn’t it? I queried, and waited. That’s essentially it. Though, there’s a lot that goes into the query process, and it all goes back to research. I researched the publisher, Georgia McBride. I read her interviews, I searched for what she was looking for. I needed to not only make sure that my book would be a fit for her company, but that her company would be a fit for my book. It has to go both ways, and finding that match is an exhausting search.

I submitted Of The Trees for consideration to Month9Books in the beginning of July, by the end of July I had an offer. I accepted quickly, more quickly than I think was expected. But I had done my research already, I knew I wanted to be a part of Month9Books. I’m so happy I get to work with this amazing team! Not only is my story getting published, something I’ll be forever grateful and ecstatic about, but I’ve met some of the most incredible and talented people on my journey.

E.M. Fitch is an author who loves scary stories, chocolate, and tall trees. When not dreaming up new ways to torture characters, she is usually corralling her four children or thinking of ways to tire them out so she can get an hour of peace at night.
