Today we have the wonderful Vicki L. Weavil, author ofCrown of Ice and Facsimile. Facsimile comes out in 2016, along with the sequel to Crown of Ice, Sceptre of Fire! We will definitely be having Vicki back in 2016 for some spotlight interviews!!

1. Tell us about your books in 140 characters or less.

CROWN OF ICE: As the Snow Queen she’s immortal. As a seventeen-year-old human, Thyra Winther has less than a year to live. (This is actually the twitter pitch that caught the attention of both my literary agency and my publisher).

FACSIMILE: Escaping her frontier planet for Earth is Ann’s dream, until she discovers her departure may condemn an entire species to extinction. 

2. What would be the theme song for your books? 

 CROWN OF ICE: The White Forest by Brunuhville.

3. Our last “M” for Monday post was on “Mmmm…pizza”. What is your favoritefood and why do you love it?

I like a wide variety of food, but I think I must say cheese. There are so many kinds of cheese, and I love almost all of them. You can do so much with cheese – from main courses to desserts to just snacking.  Also, as I don’t eat meat, this is one of main sources of protein.

WE READ YA: I personally love cheese and would love to find ways to implement it more as a main course.

 4. What are you currently writing?

I am writing the sequel to FACSIMILE – titled DERIVATION. It will be published by Month9Books in 2017. In late October I finished writing the first companion book to CROWN OF ICE – SCEPTER OF FIRE – which will be published by Month9Books in late 2016.

5. What are you currently reading?

I’ve finally gotten around to reading THE CUCKOO’S CALLING by Robert Galbraith (aka J. K. Rowling). I love mysteries and Ms Rowling’s writing, so this is a great combination for me!

Raised in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Vicki L. Weavil turned her early obsession with reading into a career as a librarian. After obtaining a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Virginia, she continued her education by receiving a Masters in Library Science and a M.A. in Liberal Studies. She is currently the Library Director for a performing and visual arts university.

An avid reader who appreciates good writing in all genres, Vicki has been known to read seven books in as many days. When not writing or reading, she likes to spend her time watching films, listening to music, gardening, or traveling. #TrailerTuesdays: Apocalypse Returns and so do my nightmares…

When I was a kid we didn’t have a lot of money. Some of our Christmas’s were homemade, most of our holidays were to see family in neighboring cities, and some of my toys were made out of paper.

My brother’s loved comics and I got to read them sometimes. I remember when Superman died (and I cried). I remember when the symbiote Venom first made an appearance (and I instantly loved him). And I remember Batman, before the Dark Knight.

But something I had of my own were my X-men paper dolls. I fell in love with the characters on my own, before my brothers found the comics. It was so long ago (circa 1980′s), but the second wave of main characters were all there: Jean Grey, Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Beast, and yes….my fave….Wolverine.

Now you will see those same characters as I once did on Teletoon at night, where the classics are replayed for us Gen X’ers.  But what gets me more excited than seeing those old replays is finding an old comic (before graphic novels came into existence). Those newspaper thin reads, where if you stuck silly putty on the pages you could get a copy of your favorite character’s face or logo, were the ultimate back in my day.

Since then YA has come a long way. We have tons of great reads out there that weren’t available 20-30 years ago (I’m still not telling you how old I am!). Dystopian really took off, as well as sci-fi, and finally genre fiction is being taken more seriously.

X-men’s theme: finding equality for those who are different, is an important one. The X-men have always had to fight for acceptance and equality. But no matter how powerful the villian, none compares to one of their own: Apocalypse. This monster came out when I was pretty young and basically haunted my dreams, for no one, not even my dear X-men, were able to stop him. At least, not in the beginning. 

So sit back and enjoy this epic movie trailer for X-Men: APOCALYPSE. WARNING: If you’re anything like me, this ultimate villian will give you nightmares. You’ve been warned.

Today it is my pleasure to interview Suzanne van Rooyen, author of The Other Me (Harmony Ink Press) &I Heart Robot (Month9Books). Suzanne has an upcoming NA novel, Scardust, you can check out onGoodreads here. We’re lucky to get a sneak peek into her lovely mind.

1.      Tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.

This was hard! But here we go:

I ♥ Robot: A story about a girl and a robot-boy who love music, and how that girl and robot-boy accidentally discover might love each other.

The Other Me:  A girl who thinks she’s an alien falls for a boy with scars, but Treasa is willing to accept Gabriel’s baggage if he can accept who she longs to be.

2.      What would be the theme song for your books?

I ♥ Robot: Undoubtedly the song Human by Civil Twilight.

The Other Me:  This book mostly has a soundtrack of classical music by the likes of Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninov, sprinkled with a liberal amount of Marilyn Manson and Linkin Park. If there was one song to sum it all up, however, it would absolutely be The Story by 30 Seconds to Mars.

3.      Our last “M” for Monday post was on movies…specifically Mockingjay. What is your favorite YA movie and why?

Wow, this is so difficult! I mostly watch science fiction and fantasy, and have enjoyed quite a few of the YA adaptations in those genres like Inkheart, Eragon (yeah, I know, but I ♥ Murtagh something fierce!), and theNarnia Chronicles. My favourite though is one I watched fairly recently, How I Live Now – in fact, all the adaptations featuring Saoirse Ronan are pretty high on my list.

We Read YA:  I have to jump in here and say I LOVEDHow I Live Now. Her transformation in the movie is great. *face palm* Can’t believe I have not read the book!

4.      What are you currently writing?

I’m currently working on a fantasy novel. Don’t want to say too much more about it ;)

5.      What are you currently reading?

Perdido Street Station by China Meiville & Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater.
