#FridayFandom: Author Interview with Stephanie Wardrop

On today's Friday Fandom I have the snarky and charming Stephanie Wardrop!

1. Tell us about your book (s) in 140 characters or less.

I have a series (SNARK AND CIRCUMSTANCE) - 4 enovellas that make up what I think of as 1 book (snark and circumstance, charm and consequence, pride and prep school, prom and prejudice), and a book-length sequel called SNARK AND STAGE FRIGHT. The first (the 4 enovellas) are based on Pride and Prejudice - snarky vegan girl meets preppy stuffy boy and they clash. (that's probably way more than 140 characters)

Hidden Worlds Books: You're forgiven. You do have 4 e-novella's to explain!

2. What would be the theme song for your book (s)?

The first book (the 4 novellas) ends with the theme of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" because it fits AND he's a cute vegan :).

The S&SF's theme would be P!nk's "True Love"

3. What is your favorite "book" movie and why?

You mean a movie from a book? Well, I love the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice from the 1990s. That almost goes without saying :) And I think the film version of Markus Zuzak's The Book Thief was underrated. I thought the actress playing Leisl was great and they did as good a job as they could do without the thing that makes the book so remarkable - the narration through the character of Death.

4. What are you currently writing?

A book set in the 1970s about the daughter of a Sylvia Plath-like suicide who has to learn how to live with her mother's legacy and find her way out of depression. So, yeah, it's a real laugh riot.

Hidden Worlds Books: This sounds amazing. I'd like to see a trend of mental health issues directly presented in YA.

5. What are you currently reading?

I am reading Angela Davis's autobiography. I like to read all sorts of things, especially history, though.

Thanks for coming out, Stephanie. Your series sound wonderful and I can't wait to read more!

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, a town known to most people only from the Monopoly game, Stephanie Wardrop always wanted to be a writer (or a pirate, but piracy seemed like even more of a long shot, career-wise). She loves animals, travel, books and movies, exploring new places, anything that smells like the ocean. She teaches at a university in western New England, where she lives with her husband, two kids, and four cats.

#FridayFandom Author Interview with Nicole Conway

1. Tell us about your book (s) in 140 characters or less.

140 Characters:
TRAITOR is full of shocking revelations and unexpected twists as we learn more and more about Jaevid's mysterious past.

Longer Description:
TRAITOR is the 3rd installment in my Dragonrider Chronicles series. So far in the series we've followed a young soldier through his rigorous training and now readers will go with him into the teeth of battle. It's going to be a book full of shocking revelations and unexpected twists as we learn more and more about Jaevid's mysterious past.

2. What would be the theme song for your book?

Oh gosh that's a tough one! I always listen to music when I write but it's hard to choose just one. Hmmmm. Probably "Soldiers" by Otherwise.

3. What is your favorite "book" movie and why?

I would definitely say Pride & Prejudice, the Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen version. I know a lot of people prefer the other version, and I've seen it as well, but I love the chemistry between Keira and Matthew so much more. I think it captures the essence of Austen's characters better -- Elizabeth's fiery spirit and Darcy's quiet resoluteness.

Hidden Worlds Books: This is the single movie that makes me just *swoon*! I don't know if its the distance between them from his confession of love to her realization ... but oh ... this is my fav, too.

4. What are you currently writing?

I'm swamped in projects, which is a happy place to be! I'm working on a scifi series and a follow on series for the Dragonrider Chronicles about the next generation.

5. What are you currently reading?

I just fi
nished reading Me Before You (*sob*) and I can't wait for the movie!

Hidden Worlds Books: OMG ... Me Before You ... that is totally on my #TBR ... and I am afraid to read it because of all the feels!

Thank you so much for coming out Nicole! I cannot wait to get my hands on the entire Dragonrider Chronicles!!

But now for one last Pride and Prejudice post ;)

#FridayFandom: Author Interview with Janice Gable Bashman

Hello, Janice!
Thank you for joining us today on #FridayFandom!

1. Tell us about your novel PREDATOR in 140 characters or less.

Bree injects herself with an untested version of her dad’s gene therapy to become a werewolf so she can save the world and those she loves.

2. If PREDATOR was made into a movie, who should portray the main characters?

My protagonist Bree Sunderland—Shailene Woodley dominated in her leading role as Tris in the film DIVERGENT. Her character was both tough and sensitive. She’s perfect to play Bree.

Bree’s boyfriend Liam ––Logan Lerman portrayed an endearing and sensitive Charlie in THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER and the hero Percy Jackson in PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS. Logan is Liam for sure since he’s able to portray a strong yet caring character. (Liam is into science, he coaches kids, and he’s caring. But he’s tough and strong too.)

Isabella—Isabella is a leader who prefers to work behind the scenes. She’s strong, responsible, and one kick-ass woman when forced to take action. Angelina Jolie is incredible when it comes to portraying a strong woman.

Dr. Sunderland (Bree’s scientist dad)—I’d cast Sam Trammell as Dr. Sunderland. Sam can easily play super smart and caring, traits that define Dr. Sunderland. Bree’s dad is a driven and determined man. His work consumes a lot of his life but for good reason. And he cares for others but doesn’t always know to show it.

3. Bree is a strong female protagonist. Why is that important in your work?

I love a strong female protagonist, someone who stands up for her beliefs no matter what the consequences and is willing to do whatever necessary to protect those she loves. Bree embodies these characteristics. But she’s not only strong. She’s smart, intuitive, and curious. She’s really into science, but she is also a typical teen who falls in love and experiences all the emotions that go along with it. Yet she is also caring and kind. The combination of these characteristic make for a compelling read.

4. What is your favorite "book" movie and why?

I love THE PRINCE OF TIDES and THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. Both movies stay true to the books in that they explore important subjects and feelings on a deep level. They also show that despite all the difficulties we may face in life there is always hope.

5. What are you currently reading?

THE WALLS AROUND US by Nova Ren Suma. I’m about half-way through it and loving it.
Here’s a short description of the book: “Ori’s dead because of what happened out behind the theater, in the tunnel made out of trees. She’s dead because she got sent to that place upstate, locked up with those monsters. And she got sent there because of me.”

Thank you for joining us Janice!
Predator sounds awesome - here are some details:

The hunt is on!
Sixteen-year-old Bree Sunderland must inject herself with an untested version of her father’s gene therapy to become a werewolf in order to stop a corrupt group of mercenaries from creating a team of unstoppable lycanthrope soldiers.
When Bree went with her scientist father to Ireland , she thought it would be a vacation to study bog bodies. She never expected to fall in love with a mysterious young Irishman and certainly never expected to become the kind of monster her father said only existed in nightmares. Dr. Sunderland discovers that lycanthropy was not a supernatural curse but rather a genetic mutation. When they return home, her dad continues his research, but the military wants to turn that research into a bio weapons program and rogue soldiers want to steal the research to turn themselves into unstoppable killing machines.
Bree’s boyfriend Liam surprises her with a visit to the United States , but there are darker surprises in store for both of them. As evil forces hunt those she loves, Bree must become an even more dangerous hunter to save them all.
Predator gives the werewolf legend a couple of new spins by introducing the Benandanti (an actual folkloric belief that certain families of Italy and Livonia were werewolves who fought against evil), as well as a modern scientific approach to mutation and the science of transgenics

Praise for PREDATOR:
“Predator is a fast-paced, creepy page-turner! Bashman had me at the opening sentence and she’s still got me. I want more!” —New York TimesBestselling Author Nancy Holder

“Every twist and fascinating revelation fell into place smoothly, with an ending that will leave readers wanting more. With this kind of originality on the page, it is exciting to speculate at the surprises Bashman will unveil next”Suspense Magazine

“Werewolf fans will howl with delight once they get their paws on this spine-chilling YA novel.”—RT Book Reviews

“Tightly written, energetic, and imaginative, Predator is a gripping adventure story teeming with vivid characters and locales, driven by compelling ideas.”—Mystery Scene Magazine

Thank you for joining us Patricia!

I can't wait for book two!!

#FridayFandom: Author Interview with Heather Young-Nichols

1. Tell us about your books in 140 characters or less.

UP FOR GRABS: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

UP FOR FOREVER: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

2. What would be the theme song for your books?

Up for Grabs would be Slut Like You by Pink, Up for Forever would be I Want You Back but I think the Colbie Caillat version. lol. As for Grounded...I'm really not sure. I'd have to listen to a lot of songs to figure that out.

UP FOR GRABS:

UP FOR FOREVER:

3. What is your favorite "book" movie and why?

My favorite book movie is Harry Potter. All of them. They did a great job sticking with the books, for the most part, and for me, they're timeless. I can watch them a hundred times (and may already have) and love them every single time.

4. What are you currently writing?

Right now, I'm working on the sequel to Grounded. It's about 10,000 words from being a first draft, which I'm really excited about.

I'm currently reading the Dream Man series by Kristen Ashley. One book left to go and Detective Mitch Lawson is my boyfriend :D

Thanks for coming out today, Heather!
Can't wait to read your series!!

Bio: Heather Young-Nichols used to write stories with the sole purpose of making her mother cry. If that happened, she knew she’d done well. Now her focused has changed. She likes books with hot guys, sassy girls and kissing. Lots and lots of kissing.

In her non-writing time, she reads a whole lot, talks even more and watches a lot of baseball.

#FridayFandom: PERIL BEYOND THE WATERFALL by Christine Porter

Welcome to another #FridayFandom author interview. Today we're meeting with Christine Porter, author of PERIL BEYOND THE WATERFALL.

In the magical empire of Laenutia, beyond a gateway of cascading water, lies a kingdom in peril. The forces of evil are gathering, ready to oust the rightful rulers of the land. Chaos hovers as the ruthless Prince Validin sets his plans in motion.

But there is hope. For in the sleepy village of Omondei lives a small, insatiably curious boy called Jeremiah, who dreams of doing something extraordinary. When Jeremiah is asked to travel beyond the walls of Omondei, he leaps at the chance. Along with a band of intrepid adventurers, Jeremiah is quickly drawn into an astonishing whirlwind of trickery and danger, where nothing is as it seems, and not everyone can be trusted.

Who is the rightful ruler of Laenutia? And why are so many people desperate to win Jeremiah over to their side? The deeper Jeremiah travels towards the heart of this mystery, the closer he comes to learning who he is, what choices he has to make, and what his dreams foretell.

Hidden Worlds Books: Are you talking this Gummy Bear?

Hidden Worlds Books: Or these ones? (comment below)

Interview With a Vampire. It stands alone as a piece of great storytelling. The book itself is fantastic, but the movie is one of those rare ones that don't pale when compared too the book.

The second title in the Histories of Laenutia, Night of the Cologoro. I'm aiming to have it out in May. I'm also plotting Book 3, as yet untitled.

Book 10 in the Wheel of Time series: Crossroads of Twilight.

Thanks for participating Christine! Very excited to read this, and good luck in finishing the rest of your series!

Christine Porter is a Pretoria-based writer of children’s fantasy. This is largely because she refuses to take anything seriously, and believes things should be bent to her will. She did not anticipate that characters, much like people, have minds of their own and often will not be told. She is the middle of three sisters, bilingual, staunchly South African and an avid tourist (but a terrible photographer). When she's not writing or travelling, she runs a small electronic bookshop and provides friendly advice and manuscript prep services to other writers.
