Something Wicked is the first of seven stories, drawn from Angie’s diaries. Kept safely hidden
for decades, they tell how the kids spent their teenage years - working with their mentor, Mr.
Rakow, and Jenny’s mom who dabbles in witchcraft, to uncover their powers and battle the
forces of darkness that menace their hometown.

Sarah Dale is an author, mom, daughter, step-mom, pack member, friend, dog-walker, cat-
appreciator, library book balancer, word lover, think thinker and picture-taker living in Lincoln,
Nebraska, just generally trying to get things done.

Prior to working in publishing, she spent years working with teens at a
busy public library, creating library programming, leading book clubs, and teaching writing workshops. Her article, “Teens and Community in the Public Library: The Algebra of ‘Pack’” was
published in Nebraska Libraries - Volume 4, No. 2 (May 2016). She is the recipient of the 1989
Victor Contoski award for Poetry Interpretation.

FACSIMILE was an enjoyable read. A YA science fiction involving issues of space colonization and future caste systems, where only 100 percenters are welcome on Earth, as opposed to those who are made from cyber parts, or those whose DNA is not purely human. Even though the world has changed immensely, the wealthy still reign supreme.

I like that the romance was minor, even though I am a fan of the love triangle.

Though the technology was there, the focus was more on the social science of anthropology, which in itself was refreshing. It reminded me a little of Orson Scott Card's Speaker for the Dead, where we are introduced to a new species who wishes to live alongside mankind.

I would definitely recommend this to the science fiction fan of all ages, from middle grade to adult.

After working as a librarian at the NY Public Library at Lincoln Center, and the Museum of Television & Radio (now the Paley Center for Media) in NYC, she is currently the Director for Library Services at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

My Summer Reads #TBR List: The Other Side of Ghosts

After talking about campfire ghost stories last week, I thought it would only be fair I give the ghosts a voice of their own. This week I'm recommending you read Michelle Reed's Atman City Series. It gives a great look into the afterlife through the eyes of Dez, a teen who dies in a car accident. These books are page turners, so you might want to put aside time to finish them, because I didn't want to put them down!
